Thomas Kotas Obituary

Thomas Michael Kotas, age 65 of Saint Clair Shores, passed away on January 4th, 2024.

Born and raised in Detroit, Tom was an embodiment of true Motor City spirit. From a young age, he had an unwavering passion for cars, which led him on a life long journey in the automotive industry. As a master painter, he possessed a unique talent for restoring classic cars to their former glory, especially big block Chevy’s Thomas was a proud owner of several vintage automobiles and found joy in participating in various car cruises and shows.

Tom hailed from a long line of entrepreneurs and at a young age, along with his twin brother Terry, he built “Kotas Bros,” a towing company and auto repair shop. This auto shop became the popular hangout spot for the twins and many of their lifelong friends to hang until all hours of the night. While Tom was dedicated to his profession, it was his role as a devoted family man that defined him. He was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Christine and Tracy, whom he loved and cherished beyond measure. Though life’s journey may have introduced changes, Tom and his ex-wife Cheryl remained close friends which allowed for both of their families to enjoy many gatherings together. Family was everything to Tom, and he was a pillar of support for his loved ones. He never missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering them on with his infectious smile, beaming with pride.

Tom’s presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and unwavering support will forever remain. Thomas Michael Kotas will be forever remembered as a larger-than-life character, no filter havin’, Chevy lovin’, rock-n-roll singin’, Pall Mall smokin’, hell of a guy! He leaves behind a lasting imprint on the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
