Thomas Russell Jantz, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and respected member of the community, peacefully passed away on November 30, 2023, at the age of 89. Born on July 23, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, to parents Paul and Ester Jantz, Tom's life was marked with love, adventure, and a commitment to serving others.
Tom's story began during his high school years when he met the love of his life, Lynne, at his prom. Their love would blossom into a lasting marriage that spanned over six decades. Together, they shared the joys and challenges of life, raising their two cherished sons, David and Steven.
After graduating from high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Army and was deployed to Germany. It was there, in the beauty of a foreign land, that Tom and Lynne exchanged vows and embarked on a lifelong journey together.
With a passion for healthcare, Tom pursued a Doctorate of Pharmacy at Wayne State University in Detroit. He would dedicate his career to helping others, working for Frank's Drugs before eventually owning and operating his own pharmacies. His expertise in medicine and genuine care for his community earned him respect and admiration from all who crossed his path.
Tom was not only dedicated to his profession but also to embracing life's adventures. He was an avid boater (even having his Charter license for fishing), skier, and even explored the depths of the sea through his passion for deep-sea diving. Traveling the world with Lynne, they created memories that would last a lifetime, including two remarkable boating trips from Michigan to Florida. Tom's love for his family extended beyond imagination, as he took his oldest grandchildren on a once-in-a-lifetime journey across the United States, camping, making memories, and even braving the thrilling rush of whitewater rafting.
Upon retirement, Tom and Lynne made their home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where they enjoyed the sunny days, tranquil waters, and the company of dear friends. Tom's involvement in the Coral Ridge Yacht Club as Governor brought him immense joy and allowed him to share his passion for boating with others. Tom was also a member of the Power Squadron (who advocates safety and navigation in boating), the Lake St. Clair Advisory committee (a conservation of natural resources and prevention of pollution of air, water ect..and also helped raise money for the St Johns Marsh project to save the wildlife area).
As we bid farewell to Thomas Jantz, we honor and celebrate the life he lived and the impact he made on the lives around him. Tom was extremely generous, and never gave up a opportunity to give to his community and was responsible for the Family Center at the YMCA. His kindness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his family and community will forever be cherished.
Beloved husband of Lynne Jantz; loving father of David (Fran) Jantz; proud Grandpa of Kaylee (Kyle) Murray, Alex Jantz, and Skylar Jantz; best Great-Grandpa of Bodhi Murray, and Cruz Murray; dear brother in law of Craig (Margaret) Schley, and cherished Godfather of Thomas (Donna) Buss. Tom is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Tom is preceded in passing by his loving parents Paul and Ester Jantz, and dearest son Steven Jantz.
