Taras Szymon Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Taras "Terry" Szymon, who left us peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the age of 83. Terry was born on March 17, 1941, to proud parents John and Helen, who instilled in him a love for the great outdoors and an unyielding work ethic.

Terry dedicated 42 years of his life to General Motors as a Machine Repairman, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues with his unwavering commitment and expertise. He was more than an employee; he was a friend to many.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Terry was introduced to the wonders of nature through the Boy Scouts in 1953, a passion that never waned. It was a joy for him to share this love with his grandson Aidan, as they continued the scouting tradition together. Whether it was hunting, fishing, camping, or simply enjoying picnics with family, Terry relished every opportunity to be out in nature. He often spoke fondly of his adventures in the middle of nowhere—whether it was in the breathtaking landscapes of Canada, the stunning mountains of Wyoming, or the serene lakes of Idaho.

Terry had his favorite comforts too; nothing pleased him more than a plate of corned beef or a catch of the day. His love for life extended to sharing Girl Scout Cookies with friends and family, proving that even the smallest joys could bring great happiness.

Terry's life will be celebrated in a warm and inviting ceremony at his beloved campground, where friends and family will gather to tell stories, share laughs, and remember a man who brought so much joy to everyone around him. Details for this gathering will be shared soon, with everyone welcome to join us in honoring Terry's legacy of kindness, adventure, and love for the outdoors.

In his passing, we find solace in the memories we created together and the love he shared so freely. Terry's spirit will continue to inspire us as we cherish every moment spent in his loving company.

You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Proud father to Lorraine DeJean, Lara (Markus) Lozser, Heather (Mike) Hood, and Suzanne (Ned) Budd; cherished brother to Elizabeth (late Joseph) Ottoy; loved grandfather to Christopher (Megan), Gregory, Kylie, Parker, Brooke, Aidan, and Carsten; treasured great-grandfather to Ashlynn, Connor, Brayden, and Keegan; wonderful Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Joined In Heaven by his dear wife, Karen, step-son Steven DeJean, and his parents John and Helen.
