Robert Turner Obituary

Robert Donald Turner, age 72, passed away on September 24th surrounded by the love of his family.

Robert was born on October 12, 1947 in Traverse City, Michigan. As a young man, Robert proudly joined the United States Air Force and served his country with dedication during the Vietnam War. It was in Vietnam, that he worked on F4s during the war and was the only airman who knew how to do so in his station. Robert left the Air Force after four years, most of which he spent as an aviation specialist. His love of aircrafts never left him, and after his time in the service he became a pilot flying for private companies. This love of flying is what brought him to meet the love of his life and future mother of his children, Elaine Haas, at the Sunny Weatherstation bar which was located at Detroit City Airport where he worked. Robert knew Elaine was the one for him, proudly declaring that he was going to marry her one day. Together Robert and Elaine raised four children; Julie, Jason, Shaun, and Stephanie. Robert retired from flying in 1999, and had time to pursue some of his other hobbies. He enjoyed playing a round of golf with his friends and family, hunting and fishing, watching his beloved western films, collecting guns, and his cars. His retirement also allowed Robert and Elaine to enjoy their winters in the sun and warmth of Florida. Robert was a fiercely loyal and dedicated father, and grandfather. His time with his family meant the world to him.

Robert will be remembered as a proud patriot and Airman, deeply devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather.

He will be forever missed.

Loving husband of Elaine Turner; dear father of Julie (Bill) Keller, Jason (Rebecca) Turner, Shaun (Kimberly) Turner, and Stephanie Turner; loving grandfather of Preston, Jory, Owen, Lauren, Carson, Bennett, and Chase.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Sally Turner, and sister Pamela Prince.
