Richard Lawrence Cushing passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2022.
Richard was born to Richard C. Cushing and Irene Powell Cushing on April 20,1949 in Detroit Michigan. He grew up in Saint Clair Shores. He went into the Navy after high school where he became a corpsman and worked at a children’s hospital in Massachusetts. He took college classes in Mass and eventually was was able to practice as a physician’s assistant when discharged. He also worked other jobs during his lifetime. One was at a marina, where he worked on boats. This was a great experience for him as he got to spend many hours on the lake he loved. He married Lisbeth C. Church on May 2, 1987. They celebrated 35 years of marriage at the time of Richard’s passing. He enjoyed reading, boating, watching races on TV and spending time with his family. He was devoted to his Dachshunds Morkie and Wheezer. He considered his dogs his children and spoiled them with love every day Richard is survived by his wife Beth, sister Carol (Gary) and Brother-in-law Chuck. His nieces and nephews, Kim Rettinger (Fred), Scott Corneille (Marianna), Michelle Westrick (Jim), Kevin McTighe (Nikki), Branwen Spragg (William Massey), Melissa McTighe (Jack), Nathen McTighe (Heather), Amber Gasiewski (Anthony) John Ladas (Maria), Sister-in-law Kathy Ladas and many great nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his friends and loved ones.
He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Irene, sister Linda McTighe, Brother John Ladas, and niece Erika Ladas. Richard chose cremation. His close friends and family will celebrate his life with a gathering, distribution of remains will be decided by family at a later date. Donations if chosen by anyone should be sent in his name to the Michigan humane society as he and his family all love dogs.
