Richard Hubert Bown

Richard Hubert Bown, age 88 of Harrison Twp., passed away on June 17, 2023 surrounded by the love of his family.

Richard was born on March 21, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to loving parents Everett and Estella Bown. As a young man, Richard graduated Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores in 1953 where he was on the Snow Ski Team. It was in high school that Richard met the love of his life, and future bride, Stella Hunt. They quickly fell in love, and were married on June 18, 1955. Together they shared nearly 68 years of happiness (with Richard passing only one day before their 68th wedding anniversary). Richard was a loving husband, and the best father to his three cherished children; Colleen, Mike, and Ron. Later in his life, Richard was overjoyed to have the title of grandfather with the births of his loved grandchildren. Richard was a second-generation owner of Bown Flooring, taking ownership from his father (who started the company in 1925) in 1973. Richard had a passion and drive for his business and was very proud of serving his community for nearly 100 years. While the floor business was his main priority, he built homes and renovated many more. There wasn’t a challenge too great for him. Many know him for the ways he helped his friends. In his free time, Richard enjoyed water sports of all kinds and boating. Richard will be forever remembered by all who knew him.

Beloved husband of Stella Bown; Loving father of Colleen (Ron Schulte) Gingas, Ron (Angela Levitan) Bown; proud grandfather of Jamie Gingas, Jessie Gingas, Paige Walsh, and Luke Bown; dear brother of William Bown; loved father-in-law of Debbie Bown. Richard is also surivived by many loving family and friends.

Richard is preceded in passing by his parents Everett and Estella Bown, son Mike Bown, and granddaughter Jennifer Gillie.

Visitation to take place on Friday, June 23 from 2:00 – 8:00 PM with a funeral service at 6:00 PM. Burial to take place at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East at 11:00 AM. Please enter into the cemetery through the main Garfield Road gates.
