It is with a heavy heart that we announce the untimely passing of our darling daughter, Preet Kaur Jhaj.
Preet, beloved daughter of Harjinder Kaur Grewal, cherished sister of Fatehpal (Paul) and Marina Jhaj, favorite aunt of Armaan and Roman, dog mom to Max, beloved niece of Gurnam and Surinder Sandhu, “daughter number 4” of Mahesh Inder Singh and Ishnan Kaur, best friend to so many cousins, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024.
Preet was born on April 10, 1987, in Dale City, Virginia. In 1990, the family, consisting of her mom and her older brother, Paul, moved to Michigan. Preet originally graduated from Dakota High School in 2005 and then went to Baker College and Chamberlin College of Nursing. Ever since then, she dedicated her life to nursing and helping others, a calling she inherited from her mother and grandmother. Throughout her career, she earned praise and accolades from patients and colleagues while working at various hospitals in the Detroit metro area, most recently McLaren Macomb.
In her short time with us, Preet refined the knack of making friends with everyone she met. She demonstrated her love by staying in touch with those she cared about. Her thoughtful messages still bring a smile to those in the ever-expanding circle of her unconditional love. She understood the importance of making others feel valued and cherished, always making time for conversations and personal connections.
Preet was diagnosed with epilepsy at the young age of 16. Even against impossible odds she boldly faced her health challenges with resilience and determination, not allowing them to defeat her unwavering spirit. When she faced setbacks, and she faced many, she always bounced back with even more determination to fight against all odds. She drew strength from her faith in Waheguru (God in the Sikh religion). Despite her difficulties, Preet remained dedicated to her personal mission of helping others and embodied the spirit of Chardi Kala, roughly translated as “sunny ways”.
More than anything, Preet loved being part of her immediate and extended family. She loved being with her cousins and befriending their cousins and then theirs. She remembered fond tales of her exotic travels to visit her uncles. She longed for and looked forward to the next trip “home” to India or to the next “girls” trip.
We will remember Preet for her bright spirit, infectious laughter, immeasurable devotion and loyalty to her family and friends.
We will miss her forever. She is reunited with her grandparents, Captain Inder Singh Grewal and Agya Kaur Grewal.
May her soul rest in blissful eternal peace and be among the most holy.
