With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Nicholas Vitale, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, who died peacefully at home on December 25, 2024. He was 85 years old.
Born on January 1, 1939, in Cinisi, Italy, Nicholas immigrated to the United States at the age of 8 with his mother, leaving his father, younger brother, and sister behind for 18 months until they were able to be re-united.
Nick was drafted into the military and after his service was completed, he became a US citizen. He married his beloved wife, Bianca, on October 30, 1965. Together they shared a beautiful life of over 59 years of marriage, 4 children, and a lifetime of amazing memories. Nick’s heart expanded even further with the arrival of his grandchildren. He was deeply proud of each one of them and treasured every moment spent with his growing family. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and he devoted himself to their happiness and well-being every day.
Nicholas had a distinguished career at General Motors in which he won many awards, including the prestigious Boss Kettering Award. During his tenure at GM, Nick became the foremost expert in interior packaging and plastics technology. He retired in 2006 as the Interior Advanced Vehicle Design manager.
He was also a dedicated professor for over 30 years, inspiring countless students with his passion for teaching. Utilizing his vast technical knowledge, he taught students at Central Michigan University and Macomb Community College all they needed to know to have a successful career in the automotive industry.
As devout Catholic, Nick's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was the president of the Macomb Chapter of Right to life and dedicated countless hours to protect the unborn. His faith inspired everything in his life which included pilgrimages to national basilicas, daily mass, praying the rosary and countless other devotions to our lord.
Nick is survived by his wife, Bianca; children Matt (Cathy), Jackie (Troy), Fara (Rob), and Sam; Grandchildren Paul (Alysa), Nicholas, Sam (Nadia), Gina (Ben), Bianca, Nico, Caterina, Tommy, and Sammy; Great grandchildren Salvo and Matteo; Siblings Gino (Paula), Rosalie, Tony (Providence) as well as extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
