Myrna Lee Simonsen, a compassionate soul who touched the lives of many, peacefully passed away on January 1, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on October 13, 1936, in Linn Grove, Iowa, Myrna was the beloved daughter of Arthur and Hanna Simeno.
In her youth, fate intervened when Myrna crossed paths with Troy Simonsen during a birthday celebration, ultimately leading to a lifetime of shared adventures. Together, they embraced the joys and challenges of raising a family, welcoming their first son, Michael, before embarking on a new chapter in Michigan, where Troy pursued a career with Chrysler and Myrna devoted herself to nurturing young minds as a substitute teacher.
With a contagious love for learning, Myrna's intelligence and warmth endeared her to countless students throughout her tenure as an educator. In Michigan, the Simonsens expanded their family, celebrating the arrival of their second son, Steve. Relocating to Texas due to Troy's service in the Air Force, they joyfully welcomed twin boys, Doug and Dale.
Life's paths can often lead us in unexpected directions, and so it was that the Simonsens eventually returned to Michigan, settling in the loving community of Warren. In the late 1970s, Myrna and Troy parted ways, their shared love for their children forever uniting them in parental devotion.
A woman of unyielding curiosity, Myrna fostered an insatiable love for travel, immersing herself in diverse cultures and experiences around the world. Fearlessly venturing across Europe by herself, she embraced the beauty and wonder of each place she encountered.
In her professional life, Myrna was known for her tireless dedication. She demonstrated her passion for customer service and relationship-building as district manager at the Wool Shoe Company, where she thrived alongside a team of exceptional women. Described as a confidante and guide, Myrna's wisdom and friendship became an invaluable asset to the younger women who sought her advice.
Retirement did not mark the end of Myrna's journey of service. Finding fulfillment at Costco, she continued to brighten the lives of both colleagues and customers alike with her unwavering kindness and genuine interest in others.
For over two decades, Myrna shared her life and love with her cherished partner, Wayne Brill, exploring new horizons and embracing the beauty of each moment together.
With a heart that knew no boundaries, Myrna was a beacon of love and support to her family. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she treasured the times spent with her loved ones, creating lasting memories that will forever echo through the generations.
Beloved mother of Steve (Janet) Simonsen, and Doug Simonsen; loving grandmother of Jan-Michael (Nicole) Simonsen, Jason Simonsen, Jessica Simonsen, Johnathan Simonsen, and Jesse Simonsen; dearest great-grandmother; and loved great-great-grandmother; dearest partner of Wayne Brill.
Myrna was preceded in passing by her beloved sons Michael Simonsen, and Dale Simonsen, sister Cleone Schneck, parents Arthur and Hanna Simeno, and former husband Troy Simonsen.
Visitation to take place on Friday, January 5 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a funeral service at 6:30 PM.
