Mary Elizabeth Kennedy, age 68 of New Baltimore, passed away on January 26, 2020.
Mary was born on August 17, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan to John and Doris Shea.
Beloved mother of Kathleen (Shane) Stewart, and Margaret (Frank) Reno; proud grandmother of Fiona Stewart, Charlie Stewart, Annamaria Reno, and Ben Reno; loving sister of Jack (Connie) Shea, Bill Shea, Cathy (Pat) Duffy, Patty (Bill) Blazinski, and Susan (Donald) Baggett-Kalamas.
Mary retired from General Dynamics in 2016 following 38 years of service.
Mary was full of life and always ready for an adventure. She loved the ocean and enjoyed fishing, swimming, and scuba diving for many years. When she was younger, Mary was selected from a large number of applicants for a week-long scuba diving trip with Jacques Cousteau’s son.
Mary was an avid softball player in her younger years and a diehard Detroit Tigers fan her whole life. As a season ticket holder for many years, she especially enjoyed attending the
Opening Day traditions and the opportunity to attend a World Series game in 2012.
Mary loved the community at St. Peter’s Church and St. Mary’s School, where she was a member of the school board for many years. She was instrumental in obtaining the historical marker and establishing the grotto in the school connected to the Hearts and Stones Endowment.
Mary was passionate about discovering her family geneaology. She was proud of her Irish heritage, and her tremendous strength was evident through every obstacle she encountered in life.
Family was very important to Mary. Her love for her daughters, their husbands, and her grandchildren was immeasurable. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished her visits with them both in person and on FaceTime.
Mary loved her family and friends dearly. She was known for her sense of humor and brightened every room with her smile. She was treasured by her family, and her memory will be cherished in our hearts forever
Mary was preceded in death by her dear parents, John and Doris Shea.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 2-9PM. There will be a scripture service held at 7PM. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Mount Clemens. Instate, or gathering time, at 10:30. Mass at 11AM.
Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp., MI.
