Mary Louise “Mary Lou” Giannone, age 80 of Shelby Twp., passed away on December 29, 2021 surrounded by the love of her family.
Mary Lou was born on March 6, 1941 to Salvatore and Grace Zasa in Detroit, Michigan. As a young teenager, Mary Lou met the love of her life and future husband, Anthony “Tony” Giannone. They went to the Junior Prom together, but it was later in life that the two would reunite and begin their love story. Mary Lou and Tony were married in a beautiful ceremony at Old St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan. Together, they raised three beloved children: Maria, Anthony Jr., and Angela. Mary Lou was a wonderful mother and her children’s biggest supporter. She loved fiercely, with her entire heart. Mary Lou was overjoyed to become “Grandma G” to her cherished eight grandchildren: Leah, John, Ava, Aria, Elaina, Olivia, Craig, and Anthony. Mary Lou was determined to achieve anything she set her sights on. She became the first female manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken and earned the honor of Manager of the Year within the first year and met Colonel Sanders himself! In 1992, she opened and ran her successful janitorial company, PM Janitorial. Her entire family helped with the business in the beginning, even the kids, who would be rewarded with a Dairy Queen ice cream cone for a job well done. She truly gave it her all, or as her dear husband would say, “132%” in everything that she did. In Mary Lou’s free time, she loved to play scrabble with her family and online scrabble with friends all over the world. She loved golf and travelling to her condo in Florida. She was a night owl. She loved to stay up long into the night, always in awe of the moon. Mary Lou’s larger than life spirit, love, and guidance will be forever missed by all who loved her.
Beloved wife of the late Anthony Giannone, Sr., cherished mother of Maria (Matthew) Bratke, Anthony (Joanne) Giannone Jr., and Angela (Craig) Oakes; proud grandmother of Leah Rose Cunningham, John Anthony Cunningham, Ava Rose Giannone, Aria Toni Giannone, Elaina Louise Oakes, Olivia Grace Oakes, Craig Anthony Oakes, and Anthony Lawrence Oakes; loving sister of Virginia Giannone. She was a very loyal friend to many; especially Pamela Berger who was her best friend, business partner, and caregiver. Aunt Mary Lou was also adored by her many nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou joins in heaven her dearest husband and her loved siblings Grace P. Zasa, Salvatore Zasa, and parents Salvatore and Grace Zasa. She will be reunited with her loyal dog, Lexi.
