It is with heavy hearts but also with profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Durocher on May 4, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on October 19, 1951, to Edward and Florence Frederick, Mary was a brilliant mind with a heart full of warmth and kindness.
Mary was a dedicated scholar, holding a Doctorate in Anthropology and serving as an Adjunct Professor at Wayne State University, where she inspired countless students with her passion for the subject. Her love for learning extended beyond the classroom; she cherished every moment spent engaging with friends and family, always ready with a story or a laugh.
In June 1971, she married the love of her life, the late Donald Durocher, with whom she shared a beautiful life and two wonderful children. After Donald’s passing, Mary moved to Grosse Pointe Woods and focused on obtaining her Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degrees at WSU. Mary recently moved to Farmington, where she could remain close to her cherished friends and be more engaged in the community.
Mary had a zest for life that included many hobbies and pursuits. She found joy in the simple pleasures, whether that was heading "up North" to Caseville or participating in the vibrant community at the Elks Lodge and the Farmington Garden Club. Her spirit shone brightly in all her endeavors, and she made lasting friendships along the way.
Rest well, dear Mary. Your spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who remain.
Cherished mother of Don (Petrice) and Sean (Jill); dear sister to Rick (Chris), Tom, Bob (Leslie), and Patti (Mick); beloved grandmother to Alexis (Andrew), Maxwell, and Sam; loved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Joined in heaven by her dear parents, Edward and Florence, and her dear husband Don.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Belle Isle Conservatory or to the Donald P Durocher Memorial Scholarship (funds can be given to the family to be donated)
