Mary Elizabeth DePage, age 78 of Harrison Twp., passed away on November 1, 2021.
Mary, or Betty as she was well known, was born on January 21, 1943 to Paul and Mary Noreen Hirzel in
Detroit, Michigan. As a young woman attending University of Detroit, she met the love of her life, and
future husband Joseph Samuel DePage. It was love at first sight for Betty, knowing deep in her heart the
first time she set eyes on Joe that she would marry him. Their first date was a dance, and the rest was
history. They married in 1965 at St. Julianna Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan. Together, Betty and
Joe raised four beloved children: Caroline "Cari", Nancy, Andrew "Andy", and Joseph “Bart”. Family was absolutely
everything to Betty, and she cherished the times she spent with them. She was so overjoyed to become
a grandmother, and made sure to spend Wednesday evenings together for their weekly special dinners. When Betty was older, she and her sister Anne attended a framing class at a local school. That class spurred a passion for framing, and Mary "Betty" worked for many years at International Molding and even started her own framing business. Her specialty work was sought after by many and can still be enjoyed today in the many pieces that she completed. Betty was highly creative, and her spot-on eye for color and design was evident in everything she did. Betty was a life long Catholic, and her faith and church were very important to her. She had a desire to help others, and was a caretaker for many people in her life. When she retired, Betty followed her Grandmother's example and worked closely with St. Vincent de Paul for many years.
Betty’s beautiful soul, and sweet spirit will be missed by all.
