Marilyn Jane Mertes, age 77 of Macomb, passed away on February 11, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family.
Marilyn was born on August 22, 1945 to Robert and Mary Jenkinson and sister Julie in Detroit, Michigan. As a young woman, Marilyn attended Central Michigan University where she earned her teaching degree in 1968. In 1969, Marilyn would marry the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Michael Mertes. Together, they would celebrate 53 years of happiness. They would raise two beloved children, Rebecca and Aaron. Later in her life, she would be overjoyed to become a grandmother to Cyrus, Shane, and Jamieson. Family truly meant the world to Marilyn, and she cherished every moment and memory made with them. Marilyn had a love of travel, so much so that it drove her to become a successful travel agent. Her position at the travel agency gave her the wonderful opportunity to visit countries around the world. Marilyn will be forever remembered as being a compassionate and caring person, who loved life and her family. She will be forever missed by all who loved her.
Beloved wife of Michael Mertes; loving mother of Rebecca (Steve) Verkest, and Aaron (Maria) Mertes; proud grandmother of Cyrus Henry Verkest, Shane Michael Verkest, and Jamieson Robert Verkest. Marilyn is also survived by her good friends who were also her college roommates.
Funeral services will be private for the family.
