Mabel "Nickie" Naomi Hengstebeck

Mabel “Nickie” Naomi Hengstebeck, age 92 of Macomb, passed away on June 22, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family.

Nickie was born on September 26, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Ronald and Ruth Slater. As a young woman, Nickie would meet the love of her life and future husband, William Hengstebeck while attending a dance at the ballroom ‘Vanity’ in Detroit. They would go on to marry on October 22, 1949 in a beautiful ceremony at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church. Together, they would raise five beloved children: Linda, Gary, Ron, Sharon, and Bob. Nickie was a wonderful mother, and was so overjoyed to become a grandmother and great-grandmother later in her life. In her free time, Nickie loved to read, work on her word searches,  and play cards (especially 13 Gin) with her friends and family. Nickie’s sweet spirit and caring heart will be forever remembered by all who loved her.

Beloved mother of Linda (Ken) Siegel, Gary (Barbara) Hengstebeck, Ron (Kathy) Hengstebeck, Sharon (Mike) Poma, and Bob (Kim) Beck; proud grandmother of Keith, Andrew, Josh, Angela, Jake, Chris, Nick, Slater, Hunter, Shawna, Kristy, and Kerry; loved great-grandmother of Danny, Kennedy, Caleb, Noah, Claire, Quinn, Liam, Ben, Nathan, Mason, Addilyn, Lucas, Holden, Bennett, and Tatum; cherished sister of Pauline.

Nickie is reunited with her loving husband William Hengstebeck, and parents Ronald and Ruth Slater.

Funeral Mass to be held on Monday, June 26 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Instate at 9:30 AM, mass at 10:00 AM. Visitation to be held later on that same day at Lee-Ellena Funeral Home from 2:00 – 7:00 PM

Nickie will be laid to rest on Tuesday, June 27 at Great Lakes National Cemetery at 9AM.
