Lorraine Alda Domke

Lorraine Alda Domke passed from her earthly life to her heavenly home on October 10, 2023. Several months earlier from a hospital bed, she declared with a strong voice: “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race.” Reading her devotional book and her well-worn Bible had been part of her routine for many years. She certainly was ready for her homegoing.

Lorraine was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 27, 1927, to Robert and Bertha Yek, recent German immigrants. She joined a sister, Dorothy, and a brother, Donald, all of whom preceded her in death. Lorraine had many friends and throughout her life she continued to enjoy meeting new people and making them feel important.

In 1949, Lorraine married a handsome sailor she met at church, Chester Domke. They were together for 43 years until Chester’s sudden death. At that time, she didn’t know how she could go on without him. However, in the following years, she continued to build relationships with new people, especially those at Trinity Lutheran Church’s Golden Circle, with her neighbor and special companion, Stanley Tyrkus, and with so many staff and residents at Shorehaven Independent Living. During her last months, she received wonderful care from the staff at Provision Living in East Lansing who treated her as part of their family.

Lorraine regularly counted her blessings, especially her four children: Carol (Terry) Bunn, Diane (John) Goddeeris, Mark (Denise) Domke, and Paul (Maria) Domke; her thirteen grandchildren: Laura, Charles, Mary, Stephen, David, Peter, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Caitlin, Rachel, Leah, Hannah, and Matthew; and her five great-grandsons: Knox, Jack, Will, Avett, and Duke and the many nieces and nephews that loved their Aunt Lorraine. Upon leaving, her family would always call out, “Love you!” to which she always replied, “Love you more!” She will always be greatly loved and deeply missed.

Visitation will be from 1-4 pm on October 22, 2023, at Lee-Ellena Funeral Home, Macomb, Michigan, with a memorial service to follow at 4 pm. Memorials may be directed to Samaritan’s Purse, which provides relief to hurting people throughout the world.
