Leo Frank Zelmanski Jr., age 92, passed away on February 6, 2020.
Leo was born on April 27, 1927 to Leo Sr. and Victoria Zelmanski in Detroit, Michigan. As a young man, Leo proudly joined the United States Marine’s and courageously served his country during WWII. After the military, Leo met the love of his life, Dolores Rosinski, who just moved into his neighborhood in 1947. On May 6, 1950 Leo and Dolores were married in Detroit. Together they had six children; Donald, Michael, Kathleen, Denise, Richard,and Cheryl. Leo was always a hard worker and provider for his family. He worked for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years before retiring in 1985. He was a life member of the Amvets Post #57, VFW Bruce Post #1146, and the American Legion Post 4. Leo will be forever remembered as loving, great man to not only his family but to all that have known him.
Beloved husband of Dolores Zelmanski; dearest father of Michael (Diane) Zelmanski, Denise (John) Nemeth, and Richard (Kathleen) Zelmanski; cherished brother of Gerald (Leona) Zelmanski, and Harold (Geraldine) Zelmanski; proud grandfather of 22, great-grandfather of 25, and great-great-grandfather of 2.
Leo was preceded in death by his beloved children Donald Zelmanski, Kathleen McQuitty, and Cheryl LaSota; and dear grandchildren Charlene Kubic, Shawn Kubic, and great-grandson Bobby Balgenorth.
Visitation on Monday, February 10th from 3-9PM. Rosary at 8PM.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Sterling Heights. Instate, or gathering time, 10:00AM. Funeral Mass at 10:30AM.
Military honors and burial will take place on Friday, February 14 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at 12:30PM.
