Laura Ann Calappi (Jan. 17, 1968-March 25, 2020)
Laura fought a brave battle against cancer for more than a decade. In her fight, she proved herself stronger than anyone thought possible, and amazed everyone who loves her. She’s a super warrior.
She is survived by her mother, Carol, and three brothers, John, Anthony and Timothy. She was greeted in heaven by her father, John, and all her grandparents. She will be terribly missed by her sisters-in-law Heather, Laura and Rebecca as well as her six nieces and nephews, Edward, Sarah, Emily, Jason, Madeline and Colton.
Laura was a devoted daughter, a lover of dogs, and to her nieces and nephews, a giver of multiple hugs. An avid sports fan, she rooted on the Tigers and Red Wings loyally.
Her amazing memory helped her parents and family members in many ways. She could remember the dates and ages of all her extended family, numerous doctor appointments, medication doses and times, phone numbers and myriad social engagements. She was unparalleled.
The only girl of four siblings, Laura managed to maintain a girly persona and a tough-guy attitude to keep her brothers in line, but she loved them whole-heartedly.
Laura was an employee of the Wayne State Physician Group in Cardiology, Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine. She worked tirelessly for the fellowship program and took great pride in her organizational skills. At work, she referred to her fellows as “her children.” Her co-workers counted on her dependability, efficiency and loyalty and she didn’t let them down.
Laura carried with her great bravery, dignity and practicality to the end. To say she will be greatly missed is an understatement. Her family hopes she flies with the angels in peace and enjoys all that cancer took from her including all the pasta, pizza and cookies she wants with gluten-filled abandon.
Private family burial, there will be a memorial at a later date to celebrate Laura's life with family and friends.
