It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Kulhavi, aged 81, who left this world on January 16, 2026. Born on February 3, 1944, Larry lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a profound love for his family.
Larry proudly served as a Police Officer in Hamtramck for 20 years, embodying the spirit of duty and integrity. His commitment to safety and community extended beyond law enforcement, as he worked for 50 years as a Security Guard at Hazel Park Race Track and spent the last two decades of his career providing a comforting presence at Children’s Hospital in Detroit. His colleagues and those he served will remember him for his unwavering generosity and his caring nature.
Beyond his professional life, Larry found joy in the great outdoors as an avid hunter, cherishing moments of tranquility and connection with nature. Above all, his greatest joy came from his family. Larry loved spending time with his grandchildren—MacKenzie and Andrew, children of John (Michelle), and Noah, Trevor, and Kayla, children of Kristin (Jeff)—cheering them on at sporting events and proudly celebrating their accomplishments. He created countless treasured memories with his children, John (Michelle) and Kristin (Jeff), and shared an especially deep bond with his wife, Theresa, who stood faithfully by his side for over 55 years.
He is also survived by his siblings, John and Kathy (Steve), sisters-in-law, Susan and Esther, along with many nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly. Larry was predeceased by his parents John Kulhavi, Cassandra Leyman (Kulhavi), his son, Keith, sister Sharon, and brother, Donald.
As we remember Larry, we invite family and friends to celebrate his remarkable life. Visitation will be held on Friday January 23rd at Lee-Ellena Funeral Home from 2:00pm-8:00pm, 46530 Romeo Plank Road, Macomb, MI 48044, where we will come together to honor his legacy and the impact he had on so many lives. The family looks forward to sharing cherished stories and memories, reflecting on a life well-lived.
Funeral Services held on Saturday January 24th at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 17051 24 Mile Road, Macomb, 48042. Larry will lie instate from 10:00am-11:00am, Funeral Service at 11:00am.
In this time of grief, we find solace in knowing that Larry's spirit will live on in our hearts forever—through acts of kindness, love for family, and a shared commitment to community. May he rest in peace as we carry forward the lessons he imparted and the love he shared with us all.
