Joseph LaBonty Obituary
Joseph Wilbur LaBonty, age 87 of Sterling Heights, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2021 surrounded by the love of his family.
Joe was born on September 14, 1934 to Wilber and Rose in Detroit, Michigan. He met Catherine, the love of his life, at a pool hall. Shortly thereafter, they were married. Joe proudly served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany.
After returning home, he and Catherine went on to build their family of three children while he worked at Harrison Piping Supply for over forty years.
Joe loved to spend his summers at the beloved family cottage in Blake, Ontario, and, at his cottage on Lake Huron with relatives and friends. Joe always made sure that everyone had what they needed to assure a good time was had by all.
Joe and Cathy spent the winter months soaking up the sun in Florida with their dear friends and Michigan neighbors. He often talked about their escapades and would smile when reminiscing of those days.
Joe loved a good burger and never said no to a bowl of ice cream. Joe also enjoyed swimming, bike riding, gardening and was quite the handy man. He built the Lake cottage from the ground up with the help from his son, Mark.
Joe was a faithful servant of Christ and he had a special relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Beloved father of Kevin (Lynn) LaBonty, Mark (Sally) LaBonty, and Kelley LaBonty; and proud grandfather of Amanda (Justin), Eric (Stephanie), Adam, Brandon, Shelby, Kendall, Michael, and Evan.
Joseph joins in heaven his beloved wife Catherine, his parents Wilber and Rose, and seven siblings.
Memorial Mass to take place at St. Michael Catholic Community Church on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 9:30 AM. Instate, or gathering time, 9:00 AM.
