John Wuestewald Obituary

John Murray Wuestewald, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2020.

John was born on November 10, 1938 to William and Mary Louise Wuestewald in Detroit, Michigan. John was one of four children, including his brother William and sisters Laura and Nancy. John grew up in East Detroit, and made many friends during that time. As a young man, he proudly joined the United States Navy on the USS Hancock in 1955. After his time in the Navy, John met and married his first love, Josephine Huyghe in 1958. Together they had four children. In 1974 John would marry his second wife, Amy Sturgill. Together they brought their extended and blended family together, and spent many happy and beautiful years together before Amy’s passing in 2014. Love would find its way to John once again, when he met and later married Lorraine McFarland in 2019. John was always a hardworking man and dedicated many hours as a skilled tradesman at  Ford Motor Company (Local UAW-228) and U.S. Steel Company where he provided for his family. He also worked part time for the Macomb County Prosecutors Office.  John would retire from Ford Motor Company in the late 1990’s. After retirement, John enjoyed being a snowbird and escaping the harsh Michigan winters for the sunshine and beauty of Florida. For many years John had his condo in Florida, where he sat on the Board of Association. In John’s free time he enjoyed talking politics with his friends and family. However, the most important thing in his life was his dear family, and grandchildren.

He will be forever missed, yet never forgotten.

Beloved husband of Lorraine McFarland Wuestewald; dearest father to Arthur (“Pete”) Borden, Teresa Zeien, Dawn (Rob) Sargent, Patricia (Vincent) Johnson, Daniel (Kim) Wuestewald, Douglas (Shelia) Wuestewald, David (Dorothy) Wuestewald, and Marcella (William) Wuestewald-Reed; cherished brother of Laura Towle, and Nancy (Patterson) View; proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 13 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Amy; parents William and Mary Louise, and brother William Wuestewald.
