Jesusa Montenegro Obituary

Jesusa Go Montenegro, beloved Mama, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on March 10, 2022. Jesusa, nicknamed as Amay/ Gamay (small), was born on December 1,1948 to Seva Go and Clarita Legaspina in Escalante, Negros Occidental, Philippines. Her family moved to Cebu City when she was in her teenage years where she met her husband, Dr. David Montenegro Sr., a medical student at the time, while he was staying at the boarding house next to their family restaurant. The two were married on April 22, 1970, in Lanuza, Surigao del Sur, David’s idyllic hometown right by the bay facing the Pacific Ocean. Together, the two raised 5 beautiful children, one girl and 4 boys.

Jesusa and her husband lived life to the fullest. She was very supportive of her children and grandchildren especially on their education and sports, she was their number one fan. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. One of her proudest moments was when her first grandchild, Jaimee, graduated from high school last year with highest honors; she stood in her red beautiful dress and colorful hat in the stadium amidst 90 degree weather for the whole ceremony never flinching in spite of her diagnoses. She loved to sing and dance, talking to her friends on social media and neighbors when she was still in the Philippines. She enjoyed shopping at Forever 21 with her granddaughters and their friends, and even earned the nicknamed “Miss Universe” from them. Jesusa had a laugh that everyone loved, feisty yet loving and forgiving, and above all she was very brave. Throughout her three year battle against cancer, she handled it with utmost courage, optimism, and grace till the end. She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved her.

Beloved wife of the late Dr. David Sr. of Lanuza; loving mother of Jade ( Ken ), Panamin ( Raquel ), David Jr. , and Sin Clyde; devoted sister of Nestor Legaspina, Maria Luisa Feleciano and Thelma Abrea; best friend of her sister in law Corazon Legaspina; proud grandmother of Jaimee, Jessica, Jade Frances, Alexandria, Zachary, and Sebastian.

Predeceased by her loving parents, Seva and Clarita, older brother Victor Legaspina Sr., older sister Minerva Manigsaca, younger brother Eddie Go, and 3rd child Marl Mario.
