Jan (John) Mankiewicz, age 88, passed away at home with his family on March 31, 2020. He was born in Zarzec, Poland on May 20, 1931 to Piotr and Josefa Mankiewicz. His family survived the Holocaust during World War II, and eventually settled in Canada. Jan worked at several Canadian mines located in Quebec, Ontario, and Northwest Territories. While in Northwest Territories, he enjoyed being captain of the Discovery Mine soccer team located in Yellowknife. Next, Jan moved to Windsor where he met his loving wife Rosie (Zdziarski) of 60 years. They raised their family in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Jan worked at the Ford Motor Company - Utica Trim Plant for the next 30 years. After retirement they spent several years in Lexington, Michigan, but eventually moved back closer to their children.
Most of all, Jan loved and adored his family. Jan was a man of faith, and also had a passion for gardening, fishing, and carpentry. He appreciated animals and nature. He was a hardworking and humble man. Jan will always be truly loved, admired and remembered. He has given us all so many gifts in life and then some. He will be missed very much by his family and friends.
Loving husband of Rosie (Zdziarski) for 60 years, Dedicated and loving father of Julie (Mario), Diana Harris (Bruce), Lynn Potts (Edward), and Peter Mankiewicz (Lisa).
Beloved grandfather of Anthony (Lauren), Philip, Victor (Neema), Paul (Jamie), Monica, Frank, Jack, Benjamin, Lucy, Alec, Ava, and Matthew. Great grandfather of Kalina and Charlotte.
Loving brother of sisters late Halina (Frank) Koczuk, Anna (Charlie) White of Duncan British Columbia, Helen (Don) Sharp of Windsor Ontario, Mary Ann (Ken) Dafoe of Windsor Ontario, and brother of the late Frank Mankiewicz. Jan is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be private for immediate family only, and a memorial mass and celebration will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flower, donations can be made to St. Isidore Catholic Church (Macomb, Mi) or Dementia Society of America (PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901).
