James Robert Steere III, 67, of Shelby Township passed away on Sunday, September 26th surrounded by family and friends.
Jim is the son of Dorothy (Messenger) and James Steere II. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Jackie Schmitt-Steere and his father, James Steere II. Jim is survived by his daughter, Kelsey and mother Dorothy Steere.
Kelsey, his daughter, the most important person in his life enjoyed traveling together both in and out of the U.S., kayaking and swimming. Their time together was filled with love, laughter and creating wonderful memories. They often enjoyed the occasional margarita around the pool.
Jim also loved spending time with his extended family, his aunts, uncles and cousins. “Jimmy” was loved by them all.
Jim wore many hats during his career. His most treasured career was the 16 years he spent as an educator working in Utica Community Schools. He started out as a teacher and ended his career as the principal of Flickinger Elementary. The district, staff and students wished him well at his retirement in 2015. He succeeded in making Flickinger feel like it was home by creating a community of generosity, love and respect. He was deeply loved by the many students and parents that he impacted during his career.
Jim will be sorely missed by his family, his friends and his community.
Visitation to be held on Sunday, October 3 from 2-8pm. Rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral service at St. John Vianney on Monday, October 4. Instate, or gathering time, 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Luncheon to follow at the Italian Cultural Center on Romeo Plank Road.
In lieu of flowers, Jim’s wish was that money be donated to The Steere Flickinger Scholarship. It is given to graduating seniors that attended Flickinger Elementary. Checks to be made out to Kelsey Steere.
