Irmgard (Henn) Steenbergh was born February 20,1932 in Moerschid, Germany to Alma and Albert Henn. Irmgard married the love of her life, James Steenbergh while Jim was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. Irmgard retired after many years of service working at the Yale Rubber Plant in Sandusky, after retirement Jim and Irmgard enjoyed being snowbirds residing in LeHigh Acres Fl for the winter and returning home to Mio for the Summer.
Irmgard is predeceased by her parents, brothers Rudi Henn, Horst Henn and sister Doris Liva along with her beloved niece Sabine Liva.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews:
Patricia Liva (Steven Ethier), Michael Ethier, Kenneth Ethier and Curtis Ethier.
Great Niece Julia Paull (Zachary) Sydney Jane and Teeghan Elise.
Great Niece Jessica Nicholls (Jake) and Elliott Rose.
She is survived by her dear niece Linda Griffen and nephews “Robby and Ronny the farmers” and their mother Alice Steenbergh.
She is also survived by her sister- in -law Ursula Henn and her nephew Thomas Henn and his family who live in Germany. She enjoyed looking at pictures of them and their families and reminiscing about happy times visiting them in Germany.
Irmgard loved to knit, crochet and sew, recently finishing a blanket for her bed. She discovered the library and loved to read “Chicken Soup” stories and her ladies’ magazines. She discovered a joy for the Senior Center and loved to play bingo and make arts & crafts. She recently toured the fire department and was amazed by the size of the trucks (we both were!).
Irmgard was always happy to paint, color and do puzzles with her great- great nieces Sydney, Teeghan and Elliott. She was always amazed how well they could draw, color and use a laptop! She was very proud of them! She has fond memories of Sydney as a little kid being able to use a tablet and play games and “keep herself occupied”! Teeghan introduced her to Taylor Swift and Irmgard said she liked those tunes too. Elliott sure reminded her of her niece Sabine and brought back great memories of Sabine as a child, we compared pictures and shared many stories.
Aunt Irmgards special “girls” will miss her greatly. “Scoutsie Barbara”, “Piper Jean” and “Sassy” filled her days with unconditional love and happiness. These three little dogs would sit on her lap and watch Hallmark Movies, try to steal her slippers and sit by her chair looking for any snacks that may fall. I recently heard Irmgard singing to one of them; and I knew “Sassy” was stealing her yarn when I heard her say “Leave it Sassy!” Irmgard especially laughed at “Sassy” licking her ankles dry after she took a shower!
Though we are saddened by her death we are comforted to know she is once again reunited with Jim, her family and is at peace.
Irmgard will be buried next to Jim in the Yale Cemetery in June, service details and a date will be determined.
