Irene Kent

Irene E. Kent (Sutton)

July 8, 1928 - July 16, 2023 age 95,  

 Irene was born on July 8, 1928, to Lawrence and Maggie Sutton in Detroit, Michigan. Irene graduated from Mount Clemens High School in 1947 and was known for years as "Slim". She remained an officer of the Mount Clemens High School reunion committee and played an integral role  organizing  their 10 year gala dinner dance in 1957, and many other class reunions. She married the love of her life in 1948, to the late Russell "Russ" Kent, and together they raised two wonderful daughters in Harrison Township Michigan. Irene loved golfing, canning homemade jelly and beets and especially visits to the casinos later in life. Family dinner was every Sunday rain or shine.  She spent her later years as a "snow bird" enjoying the summers at their home Irene and Russ built together in the early 1970s  in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and winters in Hudson, Florida.  She enjoyed riding on the family's pontoon boat, fishing and golfing. She greatly enjoyed walking along the beach, collecting “Pudding Stones” and collecting gems found that had washed up from the St. Mary’s River, while enjoying the view from her deck watching the freighters passing through the shipping channel.  She was a strong willed independent woman with a heart of gold. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

Loving  mother of Dana Somerset and the late Suzanne "Suzee" Smith; Cherished grandmother of Audra (Brian) Davis and the late Derek Smith; Proud great-grandmother to Alexis (Cameron), Blake, Brendan, Bryce, Bentley, Shelby, and Abby. Beloved great aunt "Auntie" to Doug Shaw and Lynette (Tony) Hobyak; and many nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her sister Rose Keher, brother Lewis Sutton, niece Kathryn "Kathy" Shaw and great niece Pamela Shaw. ​​
