**Obituary for Gary R. Bessinger**
August 22, 1939 - December 7, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Bessinger, age 86, who left us peacefully on December 7, 2025. Born to Louis and Myrtle Bessinger, Gary lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. He was a devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a beloved brother, leaving behind a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Gary was a proud retired Detroit Police Officer, dedicating over 25 years of his life to serving and protecting his community. His commitment to duty was matched only by his profound love for family and the simple joys of life. He found happiness in hunting, playing golf and sharing beautiful moments walking on the beach with his late wife, Lorrie when they lived in South Carolina. Upon returning to Michigan, he most enjoyed his walks accompanied by his beloved dog, Jack, and cherished the time spent with his daughter, Colleen, and his beloved grandchildren, Caden and Adi.

He is survived by his siblings, Mike Bessinger, Brenda Smith, and Vicki Gendron, as well as many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lorrie, and his sister Janice Holman—each of whom he loved deeply and missed greatly.

A celebration of Gary’s remarkable life will be held on Tuesday, December 16th from 2:00-8:00PM at Lee-Ellena Funeral home, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories, laughter, and love in his memory. We invite all who knew Gary to join us in this heartfelt farewell, as we remember a man who brought so much joy and warmth into our lives.

Gary Bessinger will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for all the warmth he infused into the lives of those he loved. May he rest in peace.
