Eleanor DeBano Obituary

The world has lost the most beautiful woman ever, Eleanor Theresa DeBano “Ellie”. Our lives will never be the same without her. She led a faith filled life with love, joy and devotion to her family, friends, and everyone she met.

Although she had the biggest heart of anyone, it was not strong enough to survive a necessary surgery on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, and sadly passed away at a young 87 years.

She was born in Detroit to Joe and Eleanor Manzo and raised alongside 10 siblings. She worked at General Motors several years and met the love of her life in 1955. Eleanor and John married in 1956 and together they built a beautiful life of compassion, understanding, and unwavering support for one another for 68 years.

Together they had 2 children. In 1971 they suffered the loss of their wonderful son Gary to a hereditary blood disease. Knowing they are now joined together in heaven gives us peace.

Eleanor was very involved in the church and volunteered for many events. She was in the GM Motor City Chorale for 33 years and continued to bowl on a woman’s league for 57 years. She loved baking desserts, giving cards, gum, and gifts to everyone she knew. Buying Lottery tickets was also one of her favorite things to do. Her energy was nonstop. Ellie was the perfect example of kindness, generosity, and love for all to see.

Her genuine love for her family was unparalleled and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones and reciprocated that love wholeheartedly. Her family was the pride and joy of her life, and she sincerely loved every milestone, celebration, and gathering, creating lasting memories forever.

Eleanor is Joined in Heaven by her son Gary, her parents Joseph and Eleanor Manzo, and 8 of her 11 siblings - Francis, Tom, Denny, Laverne, Pat, Joseph, Eddie, and Babs.

Eleanor is survived by - her 2 siblings Jimmy and Rosie; her husband John of 68 years, her daughter Tammy (Bob) Joyce; proud grandmother of Jon (Lindsey) Joyce, Jimmy Joyce, Jenna (Matt) Manduzzi, and Jillian (Tyler) Eng; she was a great-grandmother to Rylee, Paige, Baker, Marcello, McCoy, and a new great grand baby due very soon.

Ellie’s departure has left a significant void in our hearts and in the community. However, her memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her compassion, grace, and unwavering faith will serve as an eternal source of inspiration for all whom she touched.

In lieu of flowers can be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, or the Motor City Chorale.
