Dimitra Melistas, age 64 of Macomb, Michigan, passed away on December 18, 2022 surrounded by the love of her family.
Dimitra was born on January 4, 1958 in Athens, Greece to Ioannis and Fotini Karanvas. As a young woman, Dimitra immigrated to the United States with her family and settled in Michigan where she became a naturalized citizen. She would go on to meet the love of her life, and future husband, Sotirios Melistas. They married on September 23, 1979 and together would raise three cherished children: Theothora, Frances, and Maria. Dimitra was incredibly active in her church, teaching not only Sunday school but also served on the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the church council. She also loved going to movie theaters, traveling and passing down her Greek traditions to her family. Dimitra will be forever cherished by all who loved her.
Beloved wife of Sotirios Melistas; loving mother of Theothora (Shawn) Cosgrove, Frances (Jason) Kolody, and Maria (Marios) Feroulis; dear grandmother of Stefanos Feroulis; cherished sister of Eleni Sakorafos, and Konstantina (Nikos) Karnavas-Koveos. Dimitra was also survived by many loving god-children, nieces, nephews, family and beloved friends.
Dimitra was preceded in passing by her parents Ioannis and Fotini Karnavas.
Visitation to take place on Thursday, December 22nd from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers at 7:00 PM. Funeral service to take place on Friday, December 23rd at St. John Greek Orthodox Church. Instate, or gathering time, 9:00 AM. Service at 10:00 AM. Procession to follow to Resurrection Cemetery where committal prayers and burial will take place.
