Daniel Eugene Sauter, age 76 of Clinton Twp., passed away on January 4, 2022.
Dan was born on August 11, 1945 to Eugene and Margaret Sauter in Chicago Heights, Illinois. As a young man, Dan joined the United States Airforce where he was deployed to the Philippines during the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, Dan was in charge of the flight simulators and in his down time was able to make a stereo out of scrap parts to play for himself and his fellow airmen. Dan was highly intelligent, and for many years worked as a computer programmer before retiring. Dan was the best father to his three beloved daughters: Danielle, Diane, and Dawn. He was so overjoyed to become a grandfather later in life. Family truly was his greatest joy. It was hard to meet Dan without becoming one of his friends, he truly was a social butterfly and his easy-going nature and wonderful sense of humor was something hard not to love. Dan was also a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club, attending the wild game dinners, working the Texas Hold ‘em tournaments, and donating his time to deliver food for underprivileged families during Thanksgiving as well as other fundraises that the club would hold. He also loved visiting his favorite hangout, The Basement Bar in Mount Clemens. Friends of the Basement Bar always knew Dan was coming down the stairs once they heard ‘Lollipop’ playing on the jukebox. Dan was known to all as a fabulous cook, making delicious tamales, enchiladas, and Frankenmuth chicken (Dan figured out the recipe!), and countless other meals for his family and friends. He also loved to take long car trips, just driving where the road took him or “bird eyeing it” as Dan would say. On January 4, 2022 Dan hung up his cowboy hat and went on to his next great adventure. Until we meet again, Dan.
Beloved father of Danielle Sauter, Diane (Philip) Bansen, and Dawn Simon; proud grandfather of Scarlett Bansen, Violet Bansen, L.J. Simon, and Vanessa Simon; cherished brother of Yvonne (Cliff) Hersh, and Andrea (Mark) Griffith. Dan was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family and countless friends.
Dan joins in heaven his parents Eugene and Margaret Sauter; step-mother Emilia Sauter, siblings Patricia Sauter, Stewart Sauter, Vance “Skip” Sauter, and Angela Sauter; and mother of his children Denise Dykstra.
Visitation to take place on Thursday, January 13 from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Funeral service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
