Catherine Underwood

Catherine Sousa (Reed) Underwood, 95 passed away July 13, 2021in Macomb, Michigan.

 

Cathy was born in Lowell, Massachusetts to Ignacio and Mary Sousa on December 27, 1925.  She was one of 8 children and graduated from Lowell High School in 1943. She distributed food rations during WWII while attending high school and met and married her husband, Clark Avery Reed, a U.S. Navy petty officer.  She and Clark raised their family in St. Clair Shores, Michigan where she worked as a bookkeeper for A&P Food Store. She and Clark were avid square dancers and Cathy enjoyed playing piano and volunteering at the local library. After Clark passed away, she married Kenneth Underwood and lived in Fountain Hills, Arizona for over 20 years.  

 

Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Joe, Johnny, Walter and sisters Dahlia, Mary, Bev and Delores, husbands Clark Reed and Ken Underwood, and grandson Steven Reed.

 

She is survived by her son Larry Reed and his wife Hope, and her daughter Cynthia Kruse.

 

Visitation will be at Lee-Ellena Funeral home on July 28 from 11AM-1PM with a memorial service at noon.

 

She will be interred at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
