Anne Margaret Cahill lived a life defined by compassion, service, and an unwavering commitment to others. Guided by her belief in the phrase, “In thy sight we serve,” Anne approached each day as an opportunity to care, to listen, and to uplift those around her.
Anne was born on September 8, 1941, to Marcella Grace and Leonard Grace in Ottawa, Canada. At the age of 13, her family immigrated to the United States, where she would build a life rooted in family, faith, and service. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1992, a milestone she was proud to achieve.
Academically gifted from a young age, Anne graduated from high school at just 16 and went on to attend nursing school at Providence Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She earned her nursing license in 1962, beginning a lifelong vocation that was not just her profession, but a true calling. Anne worked as a registered nurse early in her career, providing patient care at Sinai Hospital of Detroit and the Chrysler Corporation before dedicating 12 years to raising her children at home. She later returned to nursing, working in the Med/Surg, emergency, and critical care units at Metro West Hospital in Livonia, managing the opening and operation of Hutzel Hospital’s Institutes for Women’s Medicine in Southfield and Livonia, and reviewing and evaluating provider preauthorization requests at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan from where she retired.
To know Anne was to know care in its purest form. She was the person people called, day or night, for medical-related advice, reassurance, and understanding. Whether helping family, friends, neighbors, or even friends of friends, she gave her time and knowledge freely, always ensuring others felt supported and informed. Nursing was not simply something Anne did, it was who she was.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted Catholic, Anne was an active member of St. Paul of Tarsus Church in Clinton Township, Michigan, where she continued her ministry of care in retirement. As part of the church’s retired nurses group, she regularly offered free blood pressure screenings and health guidance, continuing her quiet mission of service.
Anne found joy in her Irish heritage, proudly collecting Belleek china, and cherished time spent with her beloved husband, Jerry. Together, they created treasured memories, especially during their winters in South Padre Island, Texas, where Anne embraced the warmth, beauty, and spirit of coastal life.
She was also proud to be a founding resident of the Story Point senior living community in Clinton Township, where she built friendships and continued to enrich the lives of those around her.
Anne is survived by her loving family, including her son Chris Cahill (Julie), and her cherished grandchildren Joey Cahill, Emily McQuade (Shane), and Madison Heffington (Adam), along with her great-grandchildren Callahan, Sullivan, and Lilly. She is also remembered by her extended family: her brother Barry Grace (Sandra), and his children Patrick Grace (Megan) and Dan Grace (Sara), as well as Dan and Sara’s children Iris and Oliver; her sister Beth Silver (Cory), and their daughter Marcy; her sister Nancy Sebastian (Rex), and their children Leann Sebastian (Dave) and Joel Sebastian (Amy), along with Joel and Amy’s children Ben (Tugba) and Isaac. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Mary “Molly” Hardy (Randy), her husband Jerry, and her brother Paul Grace, who passed in childhood.
Anne’s legacy is one of service, kindness, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a family who carries forward her compassion and a community that is better for having known her.
A funeral mass will be held on April 16, 2026, at St. Paul of Tarsus Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Road, Clinton Township, Michigan, with a 9:30 a.m. reception and 10:00 a.m. mass. A brunch will follow at Fern Hill Golf Club, 17600 Clinton River Road, Clinton Township, Michigan.
In honoring Anne, we remember a life beautifully lived in service to others that reminds us all to care more deeply, give more freely, and serve with love.
