Albert Hector Hofman (81) passed away at home on October 11, 2021, while spending time with his family.
Born on April 18, 1940, to Albert and Mabel Hofman in Detroit, Michigan, the family soon moved to a farm in New Haven. He graduated from New Haven High School, where he met his best friend, Kenneth Tomayko. On October 27, 1962, Ken was the best man when Albert married Virginia Daoust. Al and Gini made their home across the street from the Hofman farm, where they raised their two daughters. Later, he enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren.
As a young man he worked at the Mount Clemens Drive-In movie theater, before beginning his career as a journeyman. Al was a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 80 for over 50 years. He worked on many buildings in the metro Detroit area, including the Renaissance Center and the Detroit Opera House. He took great pride in his lawn, and enjoyed spending weekend afternoons on his riding mower. Al was gifted with a green thumb, growing a large vegetable garden and caring for a collection of plants. He loved all things Mopar, and purchased some classic cars to enjoy in his retirement.
He will be missed by those who loved him: His wife, Virginia Hofman; children Alice Catherine Hofman and Amanda Mabel (Geoffrey) Hofman-Frethem; grandchildren Catherine Ellen Jacobs (Nicholas) Venier, Timothy Albert Jacobs, and Orion Alexander Jacobs.
